Administrative and Business District

Officially named José María Córdova, this interlocking mesh of structures forms part of the Alpujarra Administrative and Business District, one the most modern areas of the city. Two buildings stand out: one holds the Medellín Mayor’s Office, the other the office of the Governor of Antioquia. The buildings are also home to Medellín’s City Council, the Department Assembly, the District Attorney’s Office, and the former Antioquia Railroad Station. The central square holds the colossal Monumento a la raza or Monument to Our Race sculpture designed by Rodrigo Arenas Betancur. Located nearby are the Institute for the Development of Antioquia (IDEA), Freedom Plaza with Teleantioquia the regional television station, and Plaza Mayor hub for conventions and exhibits.
